Americans: Iraq war not worth fighting

2007 December 17

If you read the constant and insanely up-beat assessments of the White House and most of the MSM on Iraq, you could be forgiven for thinking that the surge had worked and that things aren’t going that badly for America.  In reality, 2007 was their bloodiest year of the war, there is little (to no) prospect of a political settlement, and America isn’t even control of Baghdad, let alone the rest of Iraq.

But the propaganda doesn’t appear to be working, a poll conducted on behalf of the Washington Post and ABC News showed that 60% of Americans polled think the war in Iraq just isn’t worth fighting (53% favour immediate withdrawal) and most Americans don’t think that the US Army has made significant progress to stabilise Iraq since the surge began.

Lets hope we get a Democrat President who will bring the troops home!

    @ George

If America refused to recognise dual citizenship that problem would be resolved very quickly — and it would help the Palestinian situation enormously.

Doesn’t America have to support Israel because of all the Israelis that hold dual US citizenship?

    @ Roberto

Iraq, Afghanistan, nor the Middle East is worth fighting for.

I agree but does the average American? How many Americans still believe that supporting Israel is in the American national interest?

Iraq, Afghanistan, nor the Middle East is worth fighting for. Before withdrawing troops, we have to change America from a Republican/Democratic Tyranny to a more open government. The people are tired of the war, the lies and the tyranny.

    @ 12tf

    Thanks. :)

I think that’s an interesting question. I think it’s probably a combination of both, along with fustration at there being no end in sight. Also it is huge committment on those soldiers to be away from their families for so long. And the generally feeling that the motives for the war weren’t noble.

I expect there is a lot more support for the mission in Afghanistan.

Apathy towards the show or genuine human level caring about the whole situation ? BTW I applaud these recent posts for their provocative and interesting makeup. Take Care
