Is Domestic Violence a Lifestyle Choice

The Home Office says that their figures show that women are more likely to the victims of domestic violence than men but that depends which Home office figures you’re looking at because the British Crime Survey shows that men are just as likely to be the victims of domestic violence. In fact, there is no evidence that women are more likely to the victims of domestic violence than men.

There is evidence that the Police and CPS are unlikely to prosecute women for domestic violence, in over 90% of cases where the police are called out to a domestic disturbance they will arrest the man even if he called them out and has injuries. Even when the Police do arrest women for domestic violence, the CPS are unlikely to prosecute. Not because the CPS is run by men-hating feminists but because the CPS know that the jury is unlikely to convict.

I guess Britain doesn’t take domestic violence against straight men seriously. We expect a man to be able to defend himself and if he does, he stands a good chance of being charged with domestic violence. But although according to Home Office women are over three times more likely to be killed due to domestic violence than men, the majority of stabbings in a domestic setting are by women on men.

Domestic violence is part of life, it’s common place, lots of couples have violent relationships and see nothing wrong with it. It amazes me that anyone – man or woman – wants to live like that but plenty of people do.

It’s PC to say that a man should never hit a woman and that a woman should never hit a man but they do, and our reaction to men hitting women is different to women hitting men. Instinctively, I feel it is different, if a man beat the shit out of woman there’s not much she can do but if a woman beats the shit out of a man, it’s probably because he let her.

At the same time I don’t think that all domestic violence is the same, if couples choose to be in a violent relationship, that’s there lookout. Women who get into fist fights with their partners and get beaten up aren’t victims, they’re as much to blame as their partners.

I think if we honest about it, most men and women who get beaten up by their partners go back for more. I was brought up to believe that if he hits you once, that’s the end of the relationship, you never go back and you tell the family, even if your married to him.

So is this a lifestyle choice?
